Sam Avery Joins Roots Air Staff
Sam Avery is known best for his dynamic contributions to the Bluegrass, jam band, and alternative local music scenes. Sam has played in several bands, currently, Barnum Jack and LOGE, bringing his skills and unique style to each one. Whether it’s the improvisational energy of jam bands, the rootsy soul of Bluegrass, or the raw edge of alternative rock, Sam’s passion for music always shines through. Proud of his Saint Louis roots, Sam will often credit the city’s rich musical history and vibrant local scene as significant influences on his sound.
Barnum Jack is a five-piece bluegrass band playing music that honors the roots of traditional bluegrass with a modern twist. After making their official debut in 2024 with the release of their self-titled album, the group quickly started attracting fans. During the summer of 2024, the group also won the Pickin’ On Picknic band competition. Using their profound appreciation of the bluegrass origins and impressive musicianship, Barnum Jack continues to entertain audiences all over.
Outside of the stage, Sam is an avid music enthusiast who finds joy in exploring a wide variety of genres. He is constantly seeking new sounds and inspirations, drawing from everything from classic folk to modern indie and beyond. Whether it’s attending live shows, jamming with friends, or simply listening to music at home, Sam’s love for sharing and enjoying music is all-encompassing.
Sam’s new Roots program is called Altered Roots and features an interesting mix, where Bluegrass meets the innovative sounds of independent rock. The new program airs on Wednesdays, 6 PM to 8 PM. Each new show will be available on the Roots Archive Player for two weeks.
