SUMMARY:Jimmy Griffin\, Dave Grelle and Emily Wallace @ City Winery-STL
DESCRIPTION:It’s medically unlikely that Jimmy Griffin was born with a guitar in his hands\, but that instruments been a fairly present part of his life for the past two-decades\, a time that’s seen him move from one of St. Louis’ hottest young guitar-slingers\, to a sought-after sideman\, and into a surprisingly-comfortable and evolving role as a riff-steady songwriter. With his latest project\, The Incurables\, now rounding into a third year of live work and recording\, Griffin’s never been as poised to show the world his multiple talents: as a writer of words and music; as a vocalist; as a bandleader; and someone who’s been able to synthesize all of his past experiences into a tuneful new whole. \nDave Grelle is a soul-jazz pianist and composer who leads the Playadors band.  He is known for his original music and has a background in various bands\, including The Feed\, Celebration Day\, Kevin Bowers’ Nova\, and the Funky Butt Brass Band.  Grelle’s passion for jazz and its evolution is evident in this band’s performances\, which feature a magical mingling of sounds\, styles\, and grooves. \nEmily Wallace is a visual and musical artist based out of St. Louis\, Mo. Known for her dynamic\, powerhouse vocals\, Wallace performs around town solo along with her acoustic guitar. She is also a vocalist in Dave Grelle’s Playadors and frequently collaborates with multiple local ensembles such as the Funky Butt Brass Band. Emily is currently working on an album at Sawhorse Studios.

SUMMARY:Chris Cain @ Wildey Theatre
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nChris Cain offers up a soulful stew of Memphis style electric blues. His powerfully deep vocals and jazz inspired\, blues guitar riffs are unforgettable; uniquely his own\, while reminiscent of the legendary BB King and Albert King. \nOver the years\, Cain has been invited to share stages with blues legends old and young. He’s performed with Albert King\, Albert Collins\, Buddy Guy\, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson\, Johnny Copeland\, Jimmy Witherspoon\, Joe Bonamassa\, Charlie Musselwhite\, Elvin Bishop\, and most recently\, GRAMMY-winner Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. \nToday\, blues musician\, songwriter and vocalist Chris Cain is playing guitar better than he ever has. “I’ve stopped overthinking\,” he says\, “and now just play and sing what I feel.” With more than three decades of touring and fifteen previous albums under his belt\, Cain\, once known as “one of the greatest guitarists you’ve never heard\,” is now celebrated by fans and fellow musicians alike as being among the blues’ most talented and exciting players. His original songs overflow with surprising hooks and feature razor-sharp lyrics that are moving and humorously insightful. With his powerful\, soul man’s voice and his inventive guitar work–inspired by Grant Green and Wes Montgomery as much as by B.B. King and Albert King–Cain’s talents are unparalleled in the blues world.

SUMMARY:Clay Street Unit and Jason Scott & the High Heat w/Barnum Jack @ Old Rockhouse
DESCRIPTION:Clay Street Unit \nEverything began in Denver\, Colorado\, where Clay Street Unit formed in 2021. Many of the band’s members — mandolinist Scottie Bolin\, banjo player Jack Cline\, pedal steel guitarist Brad Larrison\, drummer Brendan Lamb\, and singer/guitarist/ringleader Sam Walker — had grown up elsewhere\, spending their teenage years in cities like Atlanta\, Charlottesville and Montgomery.   “We played bluegrass events\, folk festivals\, and country venues\,” Walker says of those early shows\, which the bandmates often booked themselves. “We were able to share our music with so many different demographics and dip our toes into different pools\, and what we realized is\, it’s all pretty similar. Our music seemed to meet everyone in the middle.” \nCall it folk-country. Call it western Americana. Call it Rocky Mountain Newgrass with southern soul. Clay Street Unit aren’t concerned about the various definitions; they’re just happy that more and more people are listening. With Sin & Squalor\, they stake their claim as torchbearers of something both fresh and familiar\, nodding to the traditions of American roots music while sharpening their own modern edge. \n \nJason Scott & The High Heat \nGet ready for an unstoppable evening as these two powerhouses share the stage. Clay Street Unit brings their unique fusion of country-folk traditions and Newgrass spirit\, while Jason Scott & The High Heat delivers sweeping\, groove-driven Americana and heartland rock that’s “too loud for folk music and too textured for Red Dirt.” \nJason Scott & The High Heat\, a high-energy band comprised of five members\, brings to life a unique sound all their own. While many listeners have tried to classify their music as one genre or another\, the group simply focuses on creating music from an honest\, authentic place.  How would the band describe their sound? Well\, “The High Heat” is a hint: “That’s a baseball reference. You’re throwing that stinky cheddar. You’re throwing the high heat. I feel like our music just has that feel to it.”\, \nThe High Heat is Jason Scott on guitar and lead vocals\, Gabriel Mor on guitar\, Garrison Brown on guitar and keys\, Ryan Magnani on bass\, and Tremaine “Bobby” Wade on drums. \n  \n \n  \nBarnum Jack \nFormed in 2018\, Barnum Jack plays music that honors the roots of traditional bluegrass\, with a modern twist. Barnum Jack came together after Sam Avery (guitar\, vocals)\, Sam Aubuchon (mandolin\, vocals)\, and Chad White (banjo\, vocals) all realized their shared appreciation for the early bluegrass pioneers. The trio then added Will Miskall (bass\, vocals) and Jackson Ramsey (fiddle\, vocals) to round out the quintet. \nBarnum Jack made their official debut in 2024 after releasing their self-titled album to airwaves all across the world. Shortly after the release\, the group won the Pickin’ On Picknic band competition. Using their profound appreciation of the bluegrass origins\, and impressive musicianship\, Barnum Jack continues to entertain audiences all over.

SUMMARY:Doc Otis Band @ Contrarian Concert Hall
DESCRIPTION:The Doc Otis Band is a voodoo swamp  jazz\, steamboat swing-slathered musical cacophony which has been distilled in the lead-laden foothills of the Missouri Ozarks & deep fat fried in a vat of the Big Easy. The band is comprised of Shane Ferguson (saxs & vocals)\, Joey Rehkop (trombone & vocals)\, Jay Wilson (saxs)\, Steve Skaggs (percussion & yelling)\, Tim Ames (guitar) & Josh Hinkebein (bass & yelling). \nDoc Otis’s sound is a combined result of the insanely high lead contaminates every member of the band was subjected to from very early ages\, coupled with experiences of sight and sound during the founding member’s numerous lengthy trips to New Orleans to busk the streets and play many of the various venues in and around the French Quarter over the last 10 years. \nCombining the dark insanity of voodoo swamp jazz\, an upbeat yet soot covered steamboat swing then\, deep fat fried in a vat of the Big Easy\, The Doc Otis Band creates their very own uniquely intense and danceable soundscape.
