SUMMARY:Spafford @ Old Rockhouse
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nOn New Year’s Eve in 2009\, guitarist Brian Moss and bassist Jordan Fairless joined up to play a show in their home state of Arizona and ring in a new decade. Moss and Fairless had been playing the same open mic nights and after their first successful joint effort decided to team up and officially form a band: Spafford. After playing shows in their home state\, the pair found themselves on the hunt for a new partner to help them round out their group. They found keyboard player Red Johnson\, and on the following New Year’s Eve asked him to voyage out to Las Vegas. Johnson agreed\, and has been with the band ever since. Now\, with drummer Cameron Laforest\, the band brings their vibrant\, dynamic music to the world at large and pushes the boundaries of what a jam band can be.\nSpafford is known for their astonishing improvisational ability\, which they’ll use to play live off the cuff extended jams. Each song is a blank canvas\, and Spafford paints a picture in real time each night with a musical palette known only to each other. It’s a private language comprised of their talent as musicians\, and of their formidable catalog of influences – ranging from Steely Dan\, to electronic acts like The Crystal Method\, to 90’s alt rock radio hits. Every show is a sonic pilgrimage – the journey of a team of musicians so in tune with each other that a single note communicates intent and purpose.

SUMMARY:Jontavious Willis @ The Focal Point
DESCRIPTION:Jontavious Willis is resolved in his mission: to reinvigorate today’s Blues with the spirit of the past. Inspired by a time when the Blues were plentiful and rhythm reigned supreme; Jontavious leverages his unique sound—a synthesis of his Georgia heritage and reverence for traditional Blues—to get the world dancing again. A Grammy-nominated musician and songwriter\, Jontavious performs original\, toe-tapping tunes in the style of Delta\, Piedmont\, Texas\, and Gospel Blues. Dynamic vocals\, technical prowess\, and an abundance of Southern charm keep Jontavious sending jolts of vitality through the Blues community. \nJontavious was born and raised in rural Georgia\, an environment with deep cultural roots that provides the inspiration he has continuously drawn upon to create his unique sound. He spent much of his childhood singing Gospel music at the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church with his grandfather\, which provided him his first setting to perform for an audience. An early phenom\, his passion for the Blues was sparked at age 14 when he came across a YouTube video of Muddy Waters playing “Hoochie Coochie Man.” He achieved widespread acclaim when living legend Taj Mahal invited Jontavious to accompany him onstage in 2015\, with Taj describing him as his “Wonderboy.” Jontavious was invited to open for Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’ during their joint TajMo tour in 2018\, giving him an opportunity to present his work on a national stage.

SUMMARY:Jake's Leg Annual Holiday Acoustic Show @ The Focal Point
DESCRIPTION:Spanning the generations\, Jake’s Leg has been performing the music of The Grateful Dead for nearly 50 years. \nStarted as a duo by guitarists and vocalists Randy Furrer and Tim Fahy in 1976\, lead guitarist Dave Casper soon joined the fold.  Players were added and the music grew; friends came and went.  Some of them had 10-year-or-longer stints with Jake’s Leg\, which is a long career for most non-touring rock bands.  Bassist Joe Trunko came on board in 1990\, followed in 1991 by keyboardist Bill Noltkamper\, completing the core four that have been playing and singing together for over 34 years.  Ryan Wilhite\, after a short stint as percussionist\, took over the drum kit in 2005.  The band and their audience have an on-going dialogue based in their mutual love of the music.  If you’re a fan of the songs of The Grateful Dead\, do yourself a favor and see Jake’s Leg. Your friends will be there\, and the music never stops. \nThis will be an acoustic performance exploring the folkier roots of the Grateful Dead. The show will likely not be the perfectly silent listening room experience the Focal Point is known for; however\, the Focal Point promises that it will be great fun for all.  Dancing recommended but not required.  There will be LIMITED SEATING.  The Focal Point plans to leave plenty of the dance floor open.  To ensure seat procurement\, please arrive a little bit before the 7:30 doors open as seats will be first come\, first served.

SUMMARY:Anthology (Allman Brothers Tribute) @ Wildey Theatre
DESCRIPTION:This is a band comprised of seasoned musicians who have a passion for the legacy of the Allman Brothers\, but what sets this ensemble apart from any others is their personal connection to the Allman Brothers – Gregg Allman in particular. Two of the Anthology band members (vocalist Danny Liston and bassist Dickie Steltenpohl) played in the band Mama’s Pride\, who were signed to Atlantic Records by the legendary Ahmet Ertegun.  At one point in their career\, they crossed paths with Gregg Allman. He was so impressed with their understanding of the feel for his music\, that he asked them to be his band. So\, playing the music of the Allman Brothers became part of their DNA. \nOther members of the band include Tom Denman – keyboards\, Terry Midkiff – guitar\, (who also plays with Amanda Fish)\, Matt Rowland on guitar (who also plays with the Catapults)\, Rob Lee – drums (Rob toured for years with Mike Zito and is a Nashville session player)\, and Joe Meyer drums (who formerly toured with Nikki Hill) \nIt’s Allman Brothers the way they would play it; not note for note\, but with the kind of passion that ABB music evokes.
