SUMMARY:Molly Healey String Project @ Kirkwood Performing Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:In the Strauss Black Box Theatre at the Kirkwood Performing Arts Center \n\nJoin violinist\, cellist\, and songwriter Molly Healey\, along with her full band\, for a night of lush and high-energy orchestral rock music at the KPAC! A fan once lovingly stated that Molly brings the orchestra to the live rock show\, and it’s a descriptor that has stuck over the years. \nAs the longtime fiddle player for the Ozark Mountain Daredevils who morphed into a powerhouse experimental songwriter\, Molly Healey began her solo career in 2015 after buying a simple looping pedal. She immediately found a passion for blending her strings and voice together into atmospheric and experimental orchestral folk songs\, and her first compositions were featured on her debut solo album\, Nightbirds. She has since recorded 3 more albums\, each growing in intensity and instrumentation\, and the most recent of which\, Lotus\, was released in 2022. She has grown from the stripped-down looping solo set\, to a roster of original music and choice covers that she often performs with her full electric band\, the String Project. She plays a dazzling variety of instruments: cello\, violin\, guitar\, and piano\, all while experimenting with various other sounds looping in Ableton Live.

SUMMARY:Hunter Peebles and the Moonlighters @ Contrarian Concert Hall
DESCRIPTION:Although he originally began as a solo artist in 2012\, Peebles formed his band by happenstance after realizing his set benefited from having accompanying musicians. He’d attended high school with lead guitarist Jakob Baxter\, occasionally playing in side bands together before forming the Moonlighters in 2020. Steel guitarist Matt Maher and bassist Britton Wood also joined early on. Drummer Isaac Johnston was the final piece of Peebles’ musical puzzle.  With each member still playing in other local bands\, the name the Moonlighters seemed like an appropriate moniker. \nBlending the raw storytelling tradition of John Prine with the timeless sounds of George Jones\, Hunter Peebles & The Moonlighters bring a fresh yet classic energy to the Country/Americana scene.  Fronted by Hunter Peebles\, whose powerful vocals and poignant lyrics explore the highs and lows of the human experience\, the band features a signature mix of crying steel guitar\, rich instrumentation\, and heartfelt melodies. \nBased in St. Louis\, MO\, Hunter Peebles & The Moonlighters have quickly made their mark\, sharing the stage with notable acts such as Ben Haggard\, Sunny Sweeney\, Vincent Neil Emerson\, and Willie Watson.  With a sound that honors the past while embracing the future\, Hunter Peebles & The Moonlighters are poised to make their mark on the country music landscape.

SUMMARY:Tab Benoit @ The Sovereign
DESCRIPTION:* Soul of the Swamp Tour *\nBorn on November 17\, 1967\, in Baton Rouge\, Louisiana\, Benoit grew up in the nearby oil and fishing town of Houma\, where he still resides today. Musically\, he was exposed early on to traditional Cajun waltzes and the country music broadcast on his hometown’s only radio station. Benoit’s father was himself a musician; as such\, the family home was filled with various instruments. He began playing drums but switched to guitar because the only gigs to be had in rural Louisiana were held in churches and at church fairs\, and organizers would not allow loud drums to be played at these events. \nOne of the most impressive guitarists to emerge from the rich Bayous of Southern Louisiana in recent years\, Tab Benoit’s guitar tone can be recognized before his Otis-Redding-ish voice resonates from the speakers. He doesn’t rely on any effects and his set up is simple. It consists of a guitar\, cord\, and Category 5 Amplifier. The effects that you hear come from his fingers.  In 1992\, Benoit released his first recording Nice and Warm on the Justice Label. The title track became a AAA Radio hit and Benoit’s touring career kicked into high gear. Nice and Warm prompted comparisons to blues guitar heavyweights like Albert King\, Albert Collins and even Jimi Hendrix. \nIn 2004\, Benoit founded the Voice of the Wetlands non-profit organization and began to use music and gather other musicians to use their platforms for getting the message out. He put together an all-star band that featured Cyril Neville\, Anders Osborne\, George Porter Jr\, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux\, Johnny Vidacovich\, Johnny Sansone\, and Waylon Thibodeaux that became The Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars. The Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars have released two CDs and occasionally tour throughout the country. \n

SUMMARY:Thunderhead - The Rush Experience @ Wildey Theatre
DESCRIPTION:  \nPaying tribute to Rush\, Thunderhead relentlessly delivers the complete experience — not just the music\, but the sound\, the gear\, the production\, and the visual presentation. From the note-for-note performances to the stage look and technical detail\, they recreate the true Rush concert experience and leave every audience feeling as though they just witnessed a real Rush show. \nBilly Audrain – bass guitars\, vocals\, keyboards\, bass pedals. \nPlaying guitar and singing since the age of 12\, Billy has been performing live with different St. Louis bands since the age of 18 along with writing and recording. Through the years finding himself learning to play keyboards and bass guitar. Joining Thunderhead in January of 2010\, Billy now finds himself using all of his talents in one band along with using his feet to play the bass pedals. Just as Geddy Lee would do. “The challenge of trying to emulate Geddy Lee is by far the greatest and coolest challenges I have ever faced as a musician and I am honored to take on this challenge with two very talented men who share the same vision. Each song is a whole new “Everest” to conquer”. \nBilly plays the Geddy Lee Fender Jazz Signature Bass along with the many other tools that Geddy uses and works hard at trying to reproduce every note\, vocally and instrumentally\, just as you would hear on the studio records. \nMatt Meyer – guitars. \nMatt was born and raised in DeSoto\, MO\, a suburban area south of St. Louis. He has played guitar from the time he was big enough to hold it and began formal lessons at age 10. Around this same time\, Matt was turned onto Rush by his older cousin\, Rich. “The first Rush song I heard was ‘Fly By Night’. \nFrom his late teens to present\, Matt has played in a variety of original bands releasing several records and touring globally. He joined Thunderhead in 2013 and\, as he explains\, the appeal to join was both personal and professional. “I’d been in an original band with Billy for about five or six years when we were in our late teens and early 20s. Making music with him was a real thrill and we’ve remained good friends throughout the years. When I checked out his first Thunderhead show I was completely blown away. I’d never seen a band perform Rush songs and present the whole show with such accuracy. If I squinted my eyes just slightly\, I really did feel like I was at a Rush show. Honestly\, I’ve never been interested in playing for a cover band before and I don’t even follow the tribute band scene. But being in a band with Billy again and paying tribute to Rush\, a band that’s meant so much to me? Count me in!” \nJohn Pessoni – drums. \nJohn is well known for being the drummer for The Urge\, El Monstero\, Celebration Day\, Hard Promises\, Joe Dirt along with singing and playing guitar in The John Hughes Experience.

SUMMARY:Jake's Leg @ Old Rockhouse
DESCRIPTION:The long\, strange trip continues with another night of Jake’s Leg!  Celebrating 50 years!! \nDeadheads in St. Louis know Jake’s Leg. The band has been providing music for the scene for 50 years\, playing thousands of shows to generations of like-minded fans who just wanna keep on dancin’. Maybe you’ve heard them in some dumpy little bar like the old Twenty North or at Busch Stadium: they’ve played’em all and continue to do so on a regular basis. And the band keeps growing. \nStarted as a duo by guitarists and vocalists Randy Furrer and Tim Fahy in 1976\, lead guitarist Dave Casper soon joined the fold. Players were added and the music grew; friends came and went. Some of them had 10-year-or-longer stints with Jake’s Leg\, which is a long career for most non-touring rock bands. Bassist Joe Trunko came on board in 1990\, followed in 1991 by keyboardist Bill Noltkamper\, completing the core four that have been playing and singing together for over 34 years. Ryan Wilhite\, after a short stint as percussionist\, took over the drum kit in 2005. Most recently\, well-seasoned St. Louis musician Bill Murphy has come on to augment the keyboard position. The sum of this is one of the longest-lasting bands in the country that plays a whole lot of your favorite songs\, and you’ll find them playing in and around St. Louis. \nIf you’re a fan of the songs of The Grateful Dead\, do yourself a favor and see Jake’s Leg. Your friends are there and the music never stops. \n

SUMMARY:Pert' Near Sandstone & Sicard Hollow @ Atomic
DESCRIPTION:Sicard Hollow –   Nashville’s psychedelic punk-grass rockers\, Sicard Hollow\, grew up sick of any existing institution telling them who and what to be. Now\, as they navigate adulthood\, they’re equally tired of the music institutions telling them what their music should sound like— so they dunked it in patchouli and a skate-and-destroy ethos that brings an enduring sound into the modern age.\nPert Near Sandstone   – Formed by old friends within the vibrant Minneapolis music scene\, they have been tireless stewards of the midwestern roots music community for over two decades. Performing with infectious energy and an undeniable joy\, Pert Near’s strong songcraft melds with old-time sensibilities in a unique brand of modern string band music they deliver to fans around the world. Pert Near has had the privilege of helping to establish and continuing to curate and host the Blue Ox Music Festival. Their next studio album is due to be released in the fall of this year.

SUMMARY:Jimmy Webb @ City Winery-STL
DESCRIPTION:Multiple Grammy-winning cross genre songwriter Jimmy Webb has topped the charts from pop to country\, blues\, jazz\, disco to even rap and EDM numerous times with interpretations by some of the industry’s greatest including Art Garfunkel\, Linda Ronstadt\, Frank Sinatra\, Josh Groban\, Glen Campbell\, The Highwaymen\, Barbra Streisand\, Guns n’ Roses\, and Little Big Town. \nSince Webb’s Grammy sweep in 1968 when his own “Up\, Up and Away” and “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” vied for Song of the Year (“Up” won) to the use of his “Do What You Gotta Do” in Kanye West’s “Famous\,” the man often praised as “America’s Songwriter” remains a respected icon in popular music – and continues to challenge his artistic boundaries with projects like a classical nocturne. His most famous songs are touchstones for a generation yet remain timeless – “MacArthur Park\,” “Wichita Lineman\,” “Worst That Could Happen.” \nDuring his live shows Webb brings fans of his music a unique connection to their favorite songs\, revealing the stories behind his hits as far back as his first songwriting job at Motown through a career trajectory that took a teenaged preacher’s son from a farm town in Oklahoma to the top of his longed-for profession in just a few short years\, with pitfalls and blessings in equal measure between. His books\, Tunesmith: The Art of Songwriting and recent memoir The Cake and the Rain demonstrate his incredible talent with words and music.

SUMMARY:The Marshall Tucker Band @ River City Casino & Hotel
DESCRIPTION:The Marshall Tucker Band came together as a young\, hungry\, and quite driven six-piece outfit in Spartanburg\, South Carolina in 1972\, having duly baptized themselves with the name of a blind piano tuner after they found it inscribed on a key to their original rehearsal space — and they’ve been in tune with tearing it up on live stages both big and small all across the globe ever since. \nThe band’s mighty music catalog\, consisting of more than 20 studio albums and a score of live releases\, has racked up multi-platinum album sales many times over in its wake. A typically rich MTB setlist is bubbling over with a healthy dose of indelible hits like the heartfelt singalong “Heard It in a Love Song\,” the insistent pleading of “Can’t You See” (the signature tune of MTB’s late co-founding lead guitarist and then-principal songwriter Toy Caldwell)\, the testifying travelogue warning of “Fire on the Mountain\,” the wanderlust gallop of “Long Hard Ride\,” and the unquenchable yearning pitch of “Ramblin’\,” to name but a few. \nThe band’s current line-up consists of founding member Doug Gray – vocals\, percussion; Chris Hicks – lead guitar\, vocals; Rick Willis – rhythm guitar\, vocals; Marcus James Henderson – flute\, sax\, keyboards\, vocals; Ryan Ware – bass\, vocals; Leroy Wilson – drums.
