As rare as it may be for friendships to last a lifetime\, it might be even rarer for a band to stick together for the long haul. For close to four decades\, the members of Big Head Todd and The Monsters—Todd Park Mohr [vocals\, guitar\, keys\, sax\, harmonica]\, Brian Nevin [drums]\, Rob Squires [bass\, vocals]\, and Jeremy Lawton [keyboards\, lap pedal/steel guitar\, vocals]—have continued to both throw down in the studio and light up stages worldwide. Rallying around a core vision\, the platinum-selling Colorado quartet kick out the kind of blues-drenched rock ‘n’ roll bangers that make you want to rev the engine a little louder\, sing along like no one’s looking\, and live a little freer. \nAs the story goes\, Todd\, Brian\, and Rob unlocked their musical partnership during high school when they started jamming in the early eighties. Fast forward to 1986\, they adopted the moniker Big Head Todd and The Monsters. BHTM released 2 successful independent records on their own BIG Records\, Another Mayberry (1989) and Midnight Radio (1990) before drawing the attention of music industry titans and signing with Irving Azoff\, Chuck Morris\, and Frank Barsalona in 1992. They broke nationally  with the platinum-certified staple Sister Sweetly (1993) which yielded four top 10 rock radio hits. They continued to progress with Strategem [1994] and Beautiful World [1997] which yielded several more rock radio hits including Boom Boom featuring John Lee Hooker. The band is continually touring and recording and has continued to put out albums that have received critical acclaim from both fans and press. \nAmong other milestones\, their music literally reached the heavens when they played “Blue Sky” live at NASA Mission Control\, delivering a celestial wakeup for astronauts aboard the International Space Station. They’ve toured and recorded with many rock and blues legends including B.B. King\, Neil Young\, The Allman Brothers\, Hubert Sumlin\, David “Honeyboy” Edwards\, Dave Matthews Band\, The Eagles and their personal favorite Robert Plant. Not to mention\, they attained hometown hero status by headlining Red Rocks Amphitheatre 35 times in addition to earning induction into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2023. \nIn the end\, the future looks as bright as ever for these longtime friends. \n“We work very hard at being a great band\,” Todd leaves off. “We’re also a group that cares for each other. As a producer\, he won Album of the Year in 1989 with Bonnie Raitt; he has worked with mega stars including The Rolling Stones\, Bob Dylan\, Carly Simon\, Willie Nelson\, Elton John\, and Brian Wilson just to name a few. He also has a British Academy Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association.  Was is also currently the president of Blue Note Records\, probably the most revered jazz label of all time\, and has spent the past seven years as part of Bob Weir’s trio Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros. \nLaunched in 2024\, the nine-piece soul jazz band draws inspiration from Motor City’s wide-ranging musical history\, citing influences ranging from John Lee Hooker\, Donald Byrd\, and Joe Henderson to George Clinton\, Mitch Ryder\, The Stooges\, and Electrifying Mojo.  Led by Was with Dave McMurray on sax\, Luis Resto on keys\, Vincent Chandler on trombone\, John Douglas on trumpet\, Jeff Canaday on drums\, Mahindi Masai on percussion\, Wayne Gerard on guitar\, and Steffanie Christi’an on vocals\, the band debuted last spring\, performing a mix of originals and songs by Yusef Lateef\, Olu Dara\, Henry Threadgill\, and more during a short run spanning intimate clubs\, historic concert halls\, and major festival stages. \n“There’s a unique sound and feel to Detroit that permeates the music in a way that resonates all over the globe\,” said Was. “There is a rawness\, a lack of pretension and an unmistakable\, underlying groove that reflects the people and culture of the entire city.”  Was characterized the band’s sound as “jazzy and improvisational but also glued together with a sinewy R&B groove.” “It’s not slick or smooth — it’s a very raw\, honest\, Detroit kind of thing\,” he explained. \n\n\nHe went on to describe how his experiences touring with Bob Weir and working with artists on the Blue Note roster “have pointed the way towards realizing that sound\,” adding\, “The Pan Detroit Ensemble finally manifests that ‘thing’ I’ve been pursuing. DESCRIPTION:Spanning the generations\, Jake’s Leg has been performing the music of The Grateful Dead for nearly 50 years. \nStarted as a duo by guitarists and vocalists Randy Furrer and Tim Fahy in 1976\, lead guitarist Dave Casper soon joined the fold.  Players were added and the music grew; friends came and went.  Some of them had 10-year-or-longer stints with Jake’s Leg\, which is a long career for most non-touring rock bands.  Bassist Joe Trunko came on board in 1990\, followed in 1991 by keyboardist Bill Noltkamper\, completing the core four that have been playing and singing together for over 34 years.  Ryan Wilhite\, after a short stint as percussionist\, took over the drum kit in 2005.  The band and their audience have an on-going dialogue based in their mutual love of the music.  If you’re a fan of the songs of The Grateful Dead\, do yourself a favor and see Jake’s Leg. Your friends will be there\, and the music never stops. \nThis will be an acoustic performance exploring the folkier roots of the Grateful Dead. The show will likely not be the perfectly silent listening room experience the Focal Point is known for; however\, the Focal Point promises that it will be great fun for all.  Dancing recommended but not required.  There will be LIMITED SEATING.  The Focal Point plans to leave plenty of the dance floor open.  To ensure seat procurement\, please arrive a little bit before the 7:30 doors open as seats will be first come\, first served.

DESCRIPTION:Roy St. John began playing folk clubs in England in the 1960s\, after a stint of toting guitars with his school friend John Renbourn. Singles and albums on Virgin and Ace Records followed\, featuring Roy’s singing and songwriting\, and garnering British reviews of enviable comparisons with Randy Newman\, Robbie Robertson\, and John Hiatt. Roy left England in the late 80s and was soon hosting and producing a daily morning radio show in St. Louis. Roy now fronts Rocky & the Wranglers playing Blues\, R&B\, Rock n Roll\, and Americana in and around St. Louis. Rocky & the Wranglers’ new album is due for release any time now. \nRoy St. John (acoustic guitar\, vocals) has been involved in music in St. Louis since 1990\, when he hosted a weekday morning radio show and played with the Morning Show Band\, Klondike Pete and the Huskies\, and Rocky & the Wranglers\, who are currently enjoying their longest-running line-up. Prior to this\, he recorded for Virgin Records and played the English pub scene\, where he met guitarist John Webb. \nJohn Webb. John was born in Coventry and toured Europe and the United Kingdom as a musician before being lured to the United States to play with Johnnie Johnson and Oliver Sain and remaining in St. Louis where he has played in many local bands. \nGian Vianello (bass\, harmonica\, vocals) played in various bands during his fifty years as a musician – most notably\, the Rhythm Rockers\, The Smash Band\, John Malio’s Hawaiian Revue\, Cheap Surrender 9j and the list goes on and on! \nJoe Geil – drums and vocals for 60 years\, from soul with the Jades\, gospel with Reverend David Epley\, as well as playing with Rapscallion\, Sgt. Carter\, Rogers & Nienhaus\, Joe Bidewell\, the Flying Burrito Brothers\, and Nickel Jones. \nBob Horridge has been playing keyboards in bands since the 60s: Jimmy Dee & the Soul Seekers\, The Terry Toon Band\, March Hare (on the Admiral!)\, Soulard Blues Band\, Marcel Strong & the Apostles\, and The Larry Gwaltney Band.
