SUMMARY:Mound City Slickers @ STL Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nThe Mound City Slickers play old-time string band music\, often performing at festivals\, house concerts\, and contra and square dances throughout Missouri and Illinois. Steeped in tradition\, their concerts are a unique mix of hard-driving dance tunes\, country harmonies\, Midwest fiddle tunes\, rags\, and other surprises that have made them favorites of the old-time\, string-band scene. The band includes Sean Belt (ukuleles)\, Lindell Blackford (fiddle and mandolin)\, Rich Hibbs (banjo)\, Rich Egan (piano)\, and Keith Dudding (guitar). \nThey will be performing in Sculpture Hall as part of an exhibition opening – Picturing Independence.  This exhibition marks the semi quincentennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence by bringing together paintings\, prints\, sculptures\, photographs\, textiles\, and decorative arts spanning the period 1770 to the 2010s\, drawn from the Museum’s collection.

SUMMARY:Route 66 Jazz Orchestra @ Kirkwood Park Amphitheater
DESCRIPTION:Summer Songs Concert\nThe Route 66 Jazz Orchestra will feature their 18-piece jazz band dedicated to the preservation and promotion of “Big Band” Jazz.  Special guest artists\, the well-known guitarist and vocalist Vince Martin and Feyza Eren. \nThe roots of the Route 66 Jazz Orchestra trace back to 1969\, when Meramec Community College band director\, Dr. Ron Stilwell\, realized the need and potential to add a jazz band to the music program at the college. As the “Meramec Jazz Lab Band”\, the band flourished for over 40 years in their role as jazz ambassadors for the college. Since 2005\, the band has been under the leadership of lifelong music educator and band director\, Bob Boedges. In the fall of 2012\, the band decided to leave the college in pursuit of the further opportunities available as an “independent” organization and in 2023 Gary Brandes joined the band as the associate director. \nIf the weather should fail to cooperate and they find it necessary to cancel the concert\, the program will be presented in its entirety on Wednesday\, June 17th at First Unity\, 4753 Butler Hill Road\, St Louis\, MO 63128\, at 7:00pm.
